At this point in the year, life can start to feel hectic. Class work and projects are starting to pile on. Internships are starting to really pick up. And to top it all off, the holidays are approaching! That means plenty of gatherings for family and friends, gift giving, finding the perfect Halloween costume and more.
While all this is going on, it can be easy to forget about the most important person…YOU! So, to help you relax as you ease into fall, I made a list of helpful self-care tips.
Make sure to aside some time for yourself
Find some time, even if it’s only five minutes, in your busy schedule each day to focus on yourself. During that time, make sure that you are only doing things that bring you happiness. This mini-timeout can allow you to regroup and recharge before bouncing right back in to getting things accomplished.
*Pro tip* Set a calendar reminder on either your phone or computer to remind yourself to take your “me-time.” That will help to remind you, even on your busiest of days, to take that time for yourself.
Watch some Netflix
Nothing relaxes me more than bundling up on the couch with my favorite snacks and watching my favorite shows. If you need any ideas on what you should binge next, check out this list.
*Pro tip* Short on time? There are plenty of shows with 30-ish-minute episodes. Most of them are comedies, if you’re in need of a good laugh.
Read a book
I’ll be the first to admit that ever since I went to college, I have not read anywhere near as much as I did before. I was reading so much required material for class, that I didn’t even want to read for fun. But, looking back, I realize how much reading for enjoyment could’ve helped me relax.
Try setting aside 10 minutes each day to read something you actually want to read. Need ideas? Here’s a list of the top 100 books of the year.
*Pro tip* Carry around the book you’re reading. While I was in school, I kept the book I was reading in my purse or backpack. There were so many opportunities during the day for me to read (in between classes, at lunch, before bed, etc.), so I was really happy to have it with me.
Give meditation a go
I recently discovered meditation apps, and now I’m hooked. The sessions range in length, so you can easily find something to fit within your schedule. Plus, the apps are great because they make meditation possible anywhere without the commitment (or cost) of a formal class.
*Pro tip* Be sure to do the meditation session in a quiet, private area. The sessions are so relaxing that I often fall asleep before the end of it.
Whether you’re interested in painting your nails, getting a massage, taking a bubble bath, giving yourself a face mask, etc., do whatever makes you feel relaxed!
These are just a few of the things I do to practice self-care. Don’t see your go-to idea on the list? Share it below! Now, get to relaxing!
