Right now, life is basically the prime example of “too much to do and not enough time to do it.” Classes are getting ready for finals, projects are due, and life has to fit somewhere in there. Not to make this all about me, but I’m working a job on-campus, interning downtown, taking 18 credit hours, and planning a whole university formal, so things are pretty tough right now. I know I can’t be the only one dealing with a lot, so I came up with a list of things to do that help me relax or calm down when I’m stressed. I should mention that these are things most people don’t think of or at least talk about so you can get some new self-care tips!

Spend the whole day doing nothing

Sometimes when things get really hectic, I like to plan at least one day during the weekend with exactly no plans. No homework. No running errands. No working. Just laying in bed watching movies or planning video games, or sleeping.  Watch that movie you want to see, paint your nails, read a book, just spend the day doing little things that you don’t always get the time for. But remember the fun part is not getting ready for the day (they have food delivery services for a reason).

Go to a new restaurant

Whether it is with a friend or even, hold your horses, by yourself, going to a new restaurant can be so much fun. Getting into a new atmosphere and trying some new food is always exciting. You never know you could find a new favorite place to go.

Life hint: there are more places than just chain restaurants.

Spend some quality time with someone who means a lot to you

Call up an old friend or meet with your best friend and just spend the day doing something together. Get coffee, go shopping, see a movie, go bowling, basically do anything that you normally don’t have time to do.  Getting away from the stress of school and work can be hard. But having someone to help keep your mind off of things can be really helpful.

For me, I am an introvert which means I highly value the time I have by myself. Knowing this can impact what I want to do on those off days. So maybe it is better if you spend some time alone or if you need some company that’s okay too!  Don’t be afraid to make plans with a friend or back out of existing plans if you need some alone time. It is important to take time for yourself, especially when you feel stressed.
