Volunteer Services Intern
Description
The Human Resources and Organizational Development (HROD) division assists the staff who serve the children and families that visit the museum. Volunteer Services functions as a department of HROD and is responsible for three primary areas – Volunteers, Interns and the Power of Children Awards. We train and provide development opportunities for all volunteers and interns. POCA celebrates youth in grades 6 – 11 who are making a difference in their communities through service and philanthropy. Interns may have the opportunity to work with all primary areas in Volunteer Services or may select a specific group served by the Volunteer Services department.
Responsibilities
Possible internship projects include:
- Assist with the update and/or maintenance of web-based recruitment program
- Work on benchmark project
- Research fundraising possibilities for the programs (foundations, donors…)
- Help to get materials ready for upcoming groups of volunteers and interns
- Participate in planning some of the events sponsored by Volunteer Services
- Assist with expansion of POCA events, research and promotion
- Research and compile training materials for museum mentors
- Explore and contribute ideas for the continuous improvement of all programs
- Participate in research and evaluations of programs
- Conduct an assessment of future needs.
Qualifications
- Major in Art Administration, Liberal Arts, Organizational Leadership or Human Resources
- Attend college or university or recently graduated
- Demonstrate interest and/or experience working with volunteers of different generations
- Have an academic background or experience in similar or related topics
- Exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills
- Be self-motivated and willing to work independently or as part of a team
- Be willing to give presentations or assist during events
- Be knowledgeable of and be comfortable working with internet research
- Have the ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel
