Description

The Community Service and Volunteerism Coordinator is responsible for educating the campus community about issues involving community service and civic engagement as well as to engage students, faculty and staff in projects and activities.

Responsibilities

1) Student Programming

  • Develop and implement monthly “First Friday Service Events” for students.
  • Develop and promote regularly occurring service projects in the community.
  • Develop and plan, as well as promote and recruit students for the Alternative Service Weekend Trips/Alternative Break trips
  • Assist in promoting and facilitating the Ivy Tech Chancellor’s Service Challenge
  • Assist in the planning and facilitating in the Ivy Tech “Days of Service” Program.
  • Assist in planning and facilitating the Ivy Tech Earth Day activities (Spring).

 

2) Community Relationships

  • Create new and maintain existing partnerships with Indianapolis–area community agencies and nonprofits.
  • Plan, execute, and promote volunteer fairs and other community engagement events, showcasing local nonprofit agencies to students.

 

3) Research Projects

  • Research the budgets and community service office structures of peer institutions in preparation for a proposal to be made to the leadership of Ivy Tech Central Indiana.
  • Research service reflection models at peer institutions in preparation for the creation of a service reflection tool and assessment

 

4) Other Campus Responsibilities

  • Participate in Departmental events as needed.
  • Represent the department at various campus events.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Organization and attention to quality and detail

Ability to work under-pressure on multiple projects with frequent deadlines

Exhibit strong problem solving skills

Ability to follow directions and work independently and in a team environment

Self-motivated, positive personality with excellent interpersonal skills

Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment

Experience with social media

Familiarity with Microsoft Office

Dependable and timely
