Description
The Government Affairs Intern provides support to the Indiana Chamber of Commerce’s Government Affairs Team, including conducting research and policy analyses, managing projects aligned with the Chamber’s legislative priorities and assisting with the Chamber’s standing policy committees.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research and analyses on key policy issues
- Manage special projects in alignment with Chamber legislative priorities
- Monitor, track and report on legislative activities when the Indiana General Assembly is in session and implementation of legislative priorities post-session
- Assist with policy summaries, presentations, talking points, and key takeaways
- Support preparation and execution of Chamber policy committee meetings and related convenings of Chamber members and constituents
- Help maintain effective communications and working relationships with Indiana lawmakers and other key constituents
- Represent the Chamber at public meetings and other events (may require out-of-town travel and a valid driver’s license)
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Interest in business issues, political science, public policy, or related fields
- Experience with analyzing and summarizing complex academic texts and policy briefs
- Ability to synthesize and convey information clearly in a condensed form
- Working knowledge of the Indiana legislative process
- Excellent oral/written communication and organizational skills
- Detail-oriented with ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office productivity suite (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and social media
