Description

Assist with the coordination and implementation of strategies and activities designed to enhance the overall educational experience of students through the development, coordination, and organization of student engagement activities and campus student events. The engagement activities and events are designed to provide a student-centered environment that supports retention and completion.

Responsibilities

Primary Internship Responsibilities:

  • Provide assistance to prospective, applied, and current students covering a wide range of detailed information.
  • Produce and distribute event flyers
  • Inform students about upcoming events and engagement activities
  • Assist students in completing online processes including admissions applications and online orientation, including helping them access information in MyIvy, IvyLearn, and other online platforms.
  • Contact students for the Express Enrollment Department
  • Answer questions and assist with inquiries and completion of items related to the application for financial aid (FAFSA), verification, loan program eligibility and requirements, standards of progress, state and federal awards, scholarships, work-study opportunities, veteran benefits, Pell lifetime eligibility, and questions regarding the financial implications of repeating coursework.
  • Conduct all activities within the established guidelines of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Secondary Internship Responsibilities:

  • Maintain documentation of events, contact lists, update binders, assist in the preparation of reports
  • Order office supplies; food for events; book rooms for meetings or events
  • Organize and maintain folders for student advising
  • Maintain up to date brochures/materials available in the front office rounder
  • Be a backup for the reception desk when needed
  • Maintain supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies

Qualifications

A successful candidate must be currently enrolled at Ivy Tech Community College or another accredited higher education institution.  Preference will be given to those with seeking a degree in human services, social work, psychology/counseling, health education, or other related fields.  In addition, the following are required professional competencies:

Demonstrated skills, knowledge, and substantial work experience in the following areas:

  1. Communication. The student intern must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with diverse groups of individuals at all levels of the community.
  2. Neutrality and confidentiality. The student intern must remain non-judgmental and exercise independent judgment and prudence in dealing with sensitive, confidential matters. The intern must maintain strict confidentiality, and demonstrate the ability to treat sensitive or confidential information appropriately.
  3. Problem-solving, decision-making, and strategic thinking. The student intern must be able to work with those in need to clarify problems, gather, and analyze relevant information, and provide appropriate options of services and resources.
  4. Composure and presentation. The student intern should maintain a professional demeanor, should have strong presentation skills, and should be able to organize and communicate information to groups of varying size and hierarchical levels in the organization.
