Scheduled Hours:  20 hours/week, between the hours of 9:00 am – 7:00 pm, Monday – Friday

About GrantSelect: GrantSelect is an online database of funding opportunities, including grants (for programs, projects, planning, start-up, endowments, technical assistance, facilities and equipment, etc.), awards, fellowships, and scholarships. These funding opportunities range from research grants to arts programs, biomedical and health care research, community services programs, children and youth programs, K-12 education funding, international programs, and operating grants for nonprofits.

Description: The Content Editor Intern will ensure that Littleberry Press grants database-derived products, online and print, contain the most authoritative, up-to-date, timely, useful, and accurate information available for each unique listing.

Location:  Remote / Virtual

What You'll Gain: The internship is set up as a hand-on learning experience. This internship is designed to accommodate the intern’s academic commitments by corresponding to the academic calendar with flexible start dates and/or schedules. Interns will learn about digital publishing and print publishing. 

Interns will work directly with our Chief Editor/Intern Supervisor who is a grant writer, published author, and former school administrator. Through one-on-one training with our Chief Editor, interns will have the chance to develop content for the GrantSelect database, which is used by researchers, nonprofit managers, city and county council members, and other grant seekers. The fact-checking, research, and writing skills developed during this internship will transfer to most any job or career. Although the focus of this internship is on editorial service, there are opportunities for learn about project management, content development, and illustration and design. Content contributions to the GrantSelect product will be acknowledged in our printed grants directories.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a breadth of up-to-date (current) foundation knowledge appropriate to the database and its subscribers
  • Gather complete and accurate information from a variety of sources, including, but not limited to: foundation personnel, via initial telephone contacts followed by emailed forms; subject-specific print publications, including journals, newsletters, quarterly publications, and directories; authoritative, up-to-date, verifiable websites; and, professional organizations, meetings, etc.
  • Input the above-mentioned information into the GrantSelect database on a daily basis
  • Expand scope and coverage of the database according to changes in the field as well as in response to customer needs
  • Review and update existing data
  • Act as a team member of the Littleberry Press organization

Qualifications

  • Computer proficiency is required, including familiarity with online search tools
  • Must have a personal computer and reliable access to the internet
  • Strong writing, editing, research, communication, and management skills
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Interest in and/or experience with grant writing and/or nonprofit organizations
  • Team spirit, excellent work ethic, and friendly and warm attitude
  • Self-directed and able to work without supervision
  • Maintain a high level of customer service while interfacing with governmental agencies, community groups, and the general public
  • Coordination with college or university for credit is available as determined by college or university
