Bilingual Student Success Intern - Spring 2021
Description
The Bilingual Student Success Intern will be responsible for assisting with recruiting and retaining Latino students from our service area. Alongside the Bilingual Student Success Coach, they will develop community partnerships that support the Latino population, assisting with presentations to Latino prospects, and connect current Latino students to our Commit to Finish mentoring program. The Bilingual Student Success Intern will report directly to the Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Mentoring. |
Responsibilities
Recruiting · Build strong partnerships with Latino community support organizations in our service area · Assist with targeted admissions information and support to the Latino community in our service area in collaboration with the campus Admissions team · Provide support to Latino students from application to completion · Connect prospect students with the admission team
Mentoring · Provide program support for the case management of Latino students through the Commit to Finish (CTF) mentoring program. · Collect data to evaluate, document, and report on student participation and progress through regular contact with students. · Assist students in understanding and navigating college life, policies, and procedures. · Utilize all necessary technology tools and resources appropriate for position. · Assist with maintain a personal caseload of students; meet with assigned students to mentor and assist them in identifying academic, financial, career, and other needs, and to guide them in setting and balancing priorities, improving academic and navigation skills, and accessing resources. · Build effective and trusting relationships with students through continuous communication, evaluation of progress towards educational goals, and revision of the academic success plans. · Serves as a staff/faculty liaison in relation to Latino coaching and mentoring initiatives. · Actively participate in Latino community organizations/events and serve as a community ambassador · Actively participate in Latino student clubs · The above list of duties is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: |
The applicant must have a passion for supporting Latino student’s educational success. Working towards an associates or bachelor's degree. Applicant must be bilingual in Spanish and possess cultural competencies. |
Preferred Qualifications: |
Working towards an associates or bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology or counseling or related field. Established community relationships a plus. |
