Description

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis maintains a robust portfolio of grant awards from foundation and government donors to support our ongoing work of creating extraordinary learning experiences for children and families. The Museum is seeking an intern who will assist with researching prospective institutional donors for exhibits and programs (such as the recently announced Mission Jurassic, a transformative expansion of the Museum’s internationally recognized Dinosphere exhibit to include fossils from the Jurassic period excavated at the Museum’s own dig site, the Jurassic Mile), as well as to seek funding to support the adaptations put in place in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Responsibilities

  • Research foundation and government funding sources for Museum exhibits projects as needed to identify potential new donors with priorities that are in alignment with the Museum’s mission and the project goals.
  • Write first drafts of letters of intent (LOIs) to potential donors about Museum exhibits and projects, matching the Museum’s unique selling points with the donors’ priorities.
  • Contribute to the development of full proposals to donors on Museum exhibits and projects, conducting research and writing sections of the narrative as assigned.
  • Write first drafts of project reports to small foundation donors as assigned, liaising with various museum departments to collect information and data.
  • Provide administrative assistance to the Grants Team, scanning and/or filing donor contracts, correspondence, proposals, reports & etc., and updating the donor and grants databases.
  • Assist Major Gift Officers and the Development Department Executive Coordinator as needed with departmental mailings, donor correspondence & etc.

Qualifications

  • Be actively pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Philanthropic Studies, Communications, Journalism, or other relevant degree field
  • Be available to work at least 20 hours per week
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Have excellent writing skills and provide a writing sample as part of your application
