Description

DirectEmployers Institute is a nonprofit where we aim to bring learning to life by uniting public and private employers, schools, and non-profit organizations that have a passion for creating a diversified workforce for Indiana students who are socioeconomically disadvantaged due to underrepresentation or disabilities. We inspire and prepare the next generation of a more diverse global workforce by bringing a simulated workplace environment directly to students in state-of-the-art, project-based STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Learning Labs and through local workplace learning programs.

Each year, DirectEmployers Institute holds a summer camp called STEM YES! (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Youth Enrichment Summer camp). Launched in 2012, STEM YES! was created to provide students who are low-income, from underrepresented groups, and have disabilities, the opportunity to gain hands-on project-based experiences and workplace learning opportunities with local employers to prepare them to enter high wage careers in STEM and explore business practices with local employers.

Responsibilities

This program provides work-based readiness training for high school and college students, through an intensive 11-week summer internship program at our DEI office. Interns will participate in valuable work-based learning opportunities, skill development and workforce training opportunities.  >

Over the course of 11-weeks, students experience a real work environment and work independently and collaboratively to implement projects including, but not limited to, logistics and planning for or annual STEM YES! summer program, fund development for DEI, and marketing to engage other students to participate in DEI programs.
