Description

Soul Food Project is a nonprofit organization with a mission of fostering wellness in our community by increasing access to local food through our urban farm, offering hands on education and space for artists. We are looking for an individual that is interested in working as an educator with teens in a hands-on, outdoor setting at one of our urban farms. 

This position is an excellent fit for individuals looking to develop skills in nonprofit program management. The Youth Program Manger Intern position will provide support to all aspects of SFP's youth programming. The intern will gain a broad exposure to the inner workings of a nonprofit organization. He or she will assist the Executive Director in overall administration and logistics of every day programming. The intern will perform work directly related to the general business operations of Soul Food Project.

Responsibilities

Assist in managing a community garden. Tasks include weeding, seeding, transplanting and harvesting for food pantry. 

Manage communication with program providers and other partners

Manage communication with teen participants and parents

Verify accuracy of program logistics

Assist in the planning and coordination of meetings and orientations

Monitor teen attendance, enter payroll information

Maintain and enter data onto Google Drive

Maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all youth

Ensure program rules are being followed

Participate in weekly staff meetings

Supporting on all major service learning projects, leading youth by example

Documenting projects through pictures and film

Qualifications

Intern should have some farming experience (if not, training will be provided)

Interns must be responsible; reliable; have good management—both independently and organizationally; enthusiasm, and an interest in experiential education.

Intern should be a problem solver who is flexible and able to improvise.

Intern must have an open mind and willingness to be involved with the Soul Food Project beyond its programs and work either in the garden or at special events.

Experience in teaching/managing children or a background in education is required.

Interns should expect to be outside the majority of the day

Interns will be certified in CPR and First Aid (certification opportunity will be provided if applicant is not already certified)
