DirectEmployers Institute: Quarterly Internship for Youth and Young Adults
Description
This program provides work-based readiness training for its participants, through an intensive 8-12 week internship program at the DEI office. The program requires a full-time commitment from
Interns and has five stages: admission, assessment, practice, probation, and follow-up.
In the admission stage, candidates do volunteer work for a good cause of their choice from a list of DEI partners, such as helping at Gleaners Food Bank or cleaning up a local park.
Those who show up consistently for work and successfully complete this stage often experience their first success: earning points in the program. The internship program will also provide trainings in team building, Job Ready training, Indiana INTERNnet training, Salesforce training, bullying prevention, remote work etiquette, resume preparation, anti-racism and diversity training, and LinkedIn training. Additional trainings and resources may be offered, depending upon the availability and expertise of DEI and DEI's business partners.
Responsibilities
All interns will be required to participate in some or all the following work activities:
• Work alongside DEI staff and employer partners in preparing for STEM YES! camps, which take
place at the DEI offices. This includes speaker confirmation, student outreach, site preparation,
camp project judging, award ceremony management, and managing the logistics of other camp
components.
• Work alongside DEI, schools, and/or employer partners in school based WSPs in Marion County.
This will include providing support for WSP participants as they work through their employer-led
projects and working closely with employer partners on relevant and related short-term
projects, both in teams and independently.
• Gain experience alongside DEI staff and employer partners with contact management, and data
collection.
• Act as ambassadors for DEI and employer partners.
• Receiving advice and help in career guidance, during internship, in dealing with superiors or
colleagues, or private issues.
