Description

The 4-H Project Assistant #2 position at Purdue Extension -Ripley County is a full time summer internship.  This internship offers a multi-faceted learning experience through preparation and execution of the summer 4-H program and Ripley County Fair.   This position works directly with the Office Manager, the Extension Educators,  4-H Volunteers  and 4-H members.   Several projects and responsibilities performed will provide key training and learning in areas such as Customer Service, Public Relations,
Event Planning, Organization, Time Management, Team Building, Decision making, General Accounting  Logs, Outside the Box Brainstorming,
and Desktop Publishing.   If time allows, this position may also work directly with the Extension Educator to organize and carry out programs in other Purdue extension areas of HHS and ANR.   

Duties for this position include but are not limited to the following:

Responsibilities

  • Assist in communication to all 4-H & Mini 4-H Members and Families to answer questions regarding project clarification and fair week questions
  • Create Mini 4-H Enrollment Forms, contact area schools to promote, and deliver forms to each school.  Data entry of the new Mini 4-H forms will be required to learn the database system for future fair reports.
  • Partner with the Leader of Junior Leaders to co-coordinate and conduct the entire Mini 4-H Fun Day Event  and design or collect any needed items such as but not limited to information booklets, fun sheets, recreation and crafts.
  • Contact all Exhibit Hall Project Leaders for workshop information and create appropriate workshop flyers.  Assist at the workshop if needed.
  • Design Photo Templates, Create and Setup entire Ten Year 4-H Member Display area at Fair; also prepare the Member write-up for the newspaper
    and radio
  • Coordinate Ten Year 4-H Member Dinner
  • Organize, Promote, and Conduct a Fair-Book Assembly Session with 4-H Club Leaders
  • Create judges packets and run reports for fair and member packets for fair projects.
  • Partner with Exhibit Hall Coordinator and Office Manager to coordinate and conduct project check in and check out by designing directional signs, setup, exhibit hall display, ribbon checks, etc.  and state fair calculation, preparation and traveling to State Fair Entry
  • Create and maintain database of all fair winners.  Design and implement a system to utilize this database and combine with trophy sponsors database to coordinate the 4-H Member Awards Program  and create an announcers
    list of winners/sponsors, a paper program, all trophies labeled and responsible for everything to be moved,  arranged and ready for awards program.
  • Co-coordinate with Extension Educator to create, tabulate and award the Summer Judging contest.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, some knowledge of Excel.   Publisher knowledge preferred
  • Be able to work independently or on a team
  • Some customer service experience preferred
  • Must be dependable and able to work some Saturdays
  • Prior 4-H experience preferred
  • Must be EARN eligible
